“Iran will not allow terrorism backed by the US and the occupying regime of Israel to endanger national interests and regional security,” Jahangiri wrote in a statement on Tuesday.
Iran’s first vice president, meantime, outlined IRGC’s outstanding record in fighting different types of terrorism in the region, and said, “The Iranian government will not let the terrorists backed by the US and Israel to once again threaten the region.”
He underlined that such illegal and unreasonable decision is a new form of US hostility against the powerful Iran and the Islamic Republic’s system which comes in line of sustaining sanctions and economic war against the Iranian nation and government.
“IRGC’s successful record on counter-terrorism in the region which have led to defeat of the organized terrorism of Daesh (ISIL) is an obvious sign of Iran’s efforts to establish global security, peace and stability and its willingness to incline towards the world free from aggression and terrorism,” Jahangiri added.
The United States on Monday designated the IRGC as a “foreign terrorist organization”, marking the first time Washington has formally labelled another country’s military a “terrorist group”.
Responding to Washington’s move, Iran immediately declared the US as “state sponsor of terrorism” and American forces in the region “terrorist groups”.\
Iran’s top security body, the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), in a statement issued on Monday evening declared the United States a “terrorist government”, and blacklisted the “CENTCOM and all its affiliates a terrorist group”.
