A major fire erupted and explosions were heard at a Russian missile-making plant in Siberia.

Thick black smoke poured from the secretive KrasMash complex.

The plant makes the fearsome new-generation Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile nicknamed Satan-2, which Vladimir Putin said this month is close to deployment

The roof of a key part of the complex was reported to be on fire at the hub which also makes Sineva ballistic missiles and sections of Zenith and Proton rockets.

Black fumes blanketed the industrial city of Krasnoyarsk on the Yenisei River.

The area of the fire was reported as 5000 square metres – or 54,000 square feet.

The regional Ministry of Emergencies said that 38 fire-fighters and 13 units of fire extinguishing equipment were at the site.

Eye witnesses said they heard “the sound of explosions”.

Emergencies sources said: “The roof of one of KrasMash’s buildings is burning.”

It was not immediately known if there were casualties and the cause of the blaze was unclear.
