May 02, Colombo: Rehabilitated former LTTE members say that some of their members even now have some information on the international terrorism and they are ready to share that information for the security of the country.

However, the government has not asked for information from them, K. Chandralingam alias Thulasi, the media spokesman of the Democratic Fighting Liberation, an organization comprising former LTTE cadres says.

He was speaking to the BBC Sinhala Service about the discussion held in Jaffna on April 30 between the army and the rehabilitated LTTE cadres on the ongoing security situation.

Chandralingam further said that even the LTTE’s intelligence personnel have been rehabilitated.

He said that at a time when the rehabilitated ex-LTTE cadres are entering the democracy, they will be ready to give their support for the protection of the country at any time.

Therefore, if the government is directly or actively seeking the support of the former members of the LTTE, they are ready to support without a hesitations, the spokesman said.

The discussion between the Army troops and the rehabilitated ex- LTTE cadres living in the Jaffna district on the present security situation of the country was held at the 512 brigade I Jaffna.

The discussions were focused on how the former LTTE cadres and the army cooperate to ensure security in the Jaffna district. The Army officers had asked the rehabilitated LTTE Cadres to inform them if suspicious persons have arrived in the district.

Jaffna Security personnel participated in the discussion said they had discussed with former LTTE members who had been rehabilitated for establishing security in the country.

“Although we fought on opposite sides, the group live in the country now as law abiding persons through rehabilitation,” an army officer has told BBC.

“They said the group is ready to give support to ensure the security in the country at any time,” he said.

“We expect that the relevant team will respond positively to the security of the country.”

The Army Officers have requested the former LTTE cadres to support the security forces to protect the citizens in the Jaffna district.
