ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court ordered Rao Anwar, a former senior official of Sindh police and a key suspect in the Naqeebullah Mehsud death case, to file a review petition again, challenging its verdict that rejected his plea for removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Umar Ata Bandial, who led a bench of the apex court, directed Anwar’s lawyer to file a review petition afresh, attaching a relevant court order.
There is a process for having a name removed from the ECL, the judge explained, questioning the former police officer’s lawyer to explain as to why his client wants to go abroad.
The lawyer says that there is no inquiry pending against the former police officer but news reports say otherwise, Justice Bandial remarked.
In starting of this year, On Jan 10, a three-judge SC bench headed by then chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar had dismissed former SSP Malir Anwar’s request seeking the removal of his name from the ECL.
Rao Anwar, who retired from police service on Jan 1, is facing trial for allegedly killing four men, including South Waziristan youngster Naqeebullah Mehsud, in a fake encounter last year.
