A prominent Taliban commander who is responsible for the murder of more than 30 security personnel was arrested by the security forces in western Herat province.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Nasrat Rahimi has said the detained Taliban commander has been identified as Sadam who is the military commission chief of Taliban in Herat.
Rahimi further added that Sadam was arrested after sustaining injuries in an ambush of the security forces.
According to Rahimi, Sadam is also responsible for various assassinations in Herat city besides murdering more than 30 security personnel.
The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the arrest of the group’s commander so far.
Herat is among the relatively calm provinces in West of Afghanistan but the anti-government armed militants including Taliban are active in some of the remote districts of the province where they often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities against the government and security institutions.
