ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) threatened to lock down courtrooms across the country if the reference against Justice Qazi Faez Isa was not withdrawn.
“Which article has the judge violated? If you’re talking about the code of conduct, then no judge will remain here,” said SCBA President Amanullah Kanrani. “Justice Isa is being punished for sins he never committed.”
The presidential reference filed against Justice Isa claims that the judge did not declare a foreign property in his wealth statement.
Kanrani said that judges should not make decisions about other judges. He said that the parliament should make decisions about judges.
“When you disqualify politicians on Articles 62 & 63, judges should not have the right to make decisions about themselves,” he said. “A third party should take decisions.”
He hoped that Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa would ‘tear the reference papers’. The SCBA president said that he would burn a copy of the reference in a courtroom himself.
Kanrani said that he and the bar were not against accountability. He said that discrimination would not be allowed and lawyers would not let him be targeted.
“We respect every judge and the chief justice of Pakistan,” he said.
The SCBA demanded President Alvi’s impeachment for the reference. He said that this will not be an ordinary protest.
We will lock down courtrooms and burn them, he said. Culprits would be dragged onto the streets this time, he added.
Kanrani said that whosoever tried to do politics on Justice Isa should do it over their bodies.
“We will not wait for any phone call; we will not end the protest over any call. There are 350 complaints across the country. We will not let Justice Qazi Faez Isa be sacrificed,” he said.
He said that if the reference was not withdrawn on June 14 then all references against judges will be opened.
“They will not be able to find any judge after June 14 because every judge will be found in the court box,” he said.
He said that Arif Alvi was a ‘dummy president’.
