Indian Navy had launched an operation “SANKALP” with great pomp & show in the Gulf of Oman. IN had deployed two of its vessels as part of the Operation Sankalp, to counter maritime security incidents in the region, if any takes place with Indian merchant ships.

It was aimed to provide support for Indian-flagged vessels operating and transiting through the Gulves Persian & Oman.

India had sent its kolkata-class stealth guided missile destroyer ins chennai and saryu-class patrol vessel ins sunayna to undertake maritime security operations. Aerial surveillance support by an aircraft was also available to them in the area. The Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region, launched by the IN in December 2018 at Gurugram, was also responsible to keep a close watch on the maritime activities in the gulf area.

Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), the maritime authority of India, had issued advisories to all vessels flying the Indian flag and operating in the region, to undertake appropriate protection measures and cooperation with Indian Navy ships while embarking personnel as advisors on scene.

A rich-wording slogan from Indian Navy was also issued saying “Indian Navy remains committed to ensuring safety of Indian maritime trade and merchant vessels operating in the region and contributing towards maintaining a stable and peaceful Indian Ocean Region”

While operating such operation in the gulf, a traditional enemy of India, Pakistan was worried about of its trade ships in the area and was keeping a closer look on the operation “sankalp” for ensuring safety of its trading ships.

On 28 August 2019 few news papers’ websites broke the news that Indian Navy had made a joke of Indian taxpayers and emotions of Indian people because non of Indian Navy ship were found in the area involving the so called operation “sankalp”. An important operation for Indian trade was found abandoned without giving any information to Indian press and public sector. Inconvenience to Indian trading ships in the gulf area is an another chapter of “sankalp” blundered disappearance and abandoning.

Disappearance of Indian Navy silently from the gulf region reveals failure of this important operation, probably due to new developments in the relations between Iran, India and USA over the issue of Kashmir. Therefore, officially Indian press and Indian Navy viz Government of India are still silent to react on the situation even after publishing the facts by Pakistani press in details.
