Injured passenger describes climbing over unconscious people in double decker bus horror crash

Written by:

A passenger on the double decker bus that overturned in South Devon yesterday has said he heard screams from other passengers before the bus swerved and toppled over, hitting the ground.

Speaking exclusively to Devon Live, Bruce Daka, 24, from Paignton, told how the terrifying ordeal left him bleeding heavily from his wrist and in “total shock”.

Bruce, who was on the top deck of the full bus, said he was trapped on board for 10 minutes before he was able to escape through a smashed window.

He described having to clamber over unconscious people and those who were trapped to get out and praised the emergency services for doing “an amazing job”.

Bruce had been travelling from Paignton to Plymouth to visit some family members when the incident happened.

He said: “I was on the top deck listening to some music on my headphones.  The bus was really busy, it was full.

“It all happened within about five seconds.  I heard screams over my music and the bus started shaking.
