An Army soldier while on duty has committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest with his T56 assault rifle. The soldier had shot himself at the duty checkpoint around 4.00 pm yesterday (22).
Police said that the soldier had been working at the Drug Addicts Rehabilitation Center in the Welikanda Police Division.
The soldier has been identified as 19-year-old Madushan Premakumara, a resident of Kiriibbanwewa. Sevanagala.
The reason for the soldier’s suicide has not been ascertained yet.
