Australian Taliban Hostage Believes US Navy SEALs Attempted to Rescue Him 6 Times

An Australian teacher who arrived home this week after being held hostage by the Taliban for more than three years believes U.S. Navy SEALs attempted to rescue him six times, he told a press conference on Dec. 1.

Timothy Weeks, 50, landed in Sydney on Nov. 28 after being released by the terror group in Afghanistan last month as part of a prisoner exchange deal with United States, Australia and the Afghan government.

The prisoner swap saw Weeks and his 63-year-old American colleague, Kevin King, exchanged for three high-profile members of the Taliban, including Anas Haqqani, the younger brother of the terrorist group’s deputy, Sirajuddin Haqqani.Read MoreTaliban Releases American and Australian Professors in Prisoner Swap

Speaking publicly for the first time since his release, Weeks said: “I believe, and I hope that this is correct, that they [Navy SEALs] came in six times to try to get us, and that a number of times, they missed us only by hours,” he said.
